Keep warm save money five easy steps-Maintenance Tips

Open blinds on the south side of your apartment to let in sunlight during the day and close them tight each night. Even in the dead of winter, south-facing sunlight can warm your house an extra few degrees. Close the blinds at night and it will trap the warmth and reduce your heating needs for a few hours.

  • Keep warm indoors by wearing layers of lightweight clothing.

  • Set your thermostat to 68 degrees F or lower during the day and 55 degrees when you leave the apartment for more than 4 hours or before you go to bed.

  • Turn off all exhaust fans when they are not needed. Use bathroom fans when taking a shower and the kitchen fans when cooking. The bathroom fans come on automatically several times a day to give you air exchange (fresh air) please don’t re-adjust timer setting.

  • Keep your front door closed and locked. This will ensure that the weather stripping has a tight seal against the door and it also keeps your neighbors from stealing your heat.
